Infused with Chinese traditional drama music elements, both of the works are well- structured musical compositions that not only tell stories but also be provided with dramatic tension because of the forms of western music, the variety of Banshi in Chinese traditional drama music and the short pieces of music materials that Wu Hou-yuan chooses to use. This study aims to explore the story, culture, and interpretation of constructed music of these two works with the focus on Wu Hou-yuan’s learning process, composing idea of both music analysis and material use. Furthermore, it’s to understand the spirit of the characters in these two works as well as the ways Wu Hou-yuan adopts to put his composing idea into practice, showing that the ten years between these two works and Wu Hou-yuan’s steady, introverted and persevering personality after having gone through the baptism of the years make them different in style. After analyzing these two works and the music materials used, it is easier to understand the core motivation of the music development in them. By using the variety of Banshi in Chinese traditional drama music as the reference, it helps creating diverse kinds of mood and style for both of the works, making it possible to interpret the same motivation in different paragraphs with a more delicate way. It contains the unchanged and the changed parts, which respectively are the music notes as the core and different aspects that go through the whole music to performance.
