碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 雕塑學系 === 104 === The main purpose of this study was to approach and understand subconscious of human existence via wood carving. Unlike painting, photography, video, or other graphic arts, sculpture represents its existence in three dimensional space that could be touched and sensed. Intentionally, or unintentionally create the portrait sculpture, one can visualize the inner world becomes accessible. In the thesis, the first two chapters, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, were about introduction and theory foundation of Psychology, from Sigmund Freud’s Iceberg Theory, to Carl June’s shadow and individuation, respectively. In Chapter 3, the author of this study deconstructed the forms of expression among the abovementioned concepts from his woodcarvings. In Chapter 4, the procedures of creating were discussed with those works. The last chapter was a conclusion about creative works, subjects, and developments in wood carving from personal perspective.
