This study conducted a content research of 12 “Picture Books themed with Food Preference”. Throughout the analysis, the different points of view such as the biological senses, the brain’s cognitive learning, the culture and environment, the social responsibility, etc. are taking into account, and the illustration and expression of concepts of “Partiality eater style” and “Picky eater style”, “Good food” and “Bad food” and “Making your own food” will be explored. Likewise, I will also state a deep thinking and reflection on the meaning of diet education. The reading of “Picture Books themed with Food Preference” resembles food tasting of a huge variety of dishes. The analysis of these picture books and the observation of their illustrations not only help adults and children to extend their personal dietary territory, but also to perceive a varied and rich food appearances, and the imagination amusement result from there.
This study consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction. In the second chapter, the strategy of food tasting and habituation is explained, and the food picture transformation and imagination amusement are observed both through the “Partiality eater style” picture book from “Otto Carrotto”, and the “Picky eater style” from “I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato”, “The Princess and the Peas” and ”Eat Your Peas”. The third chapter deals with the food industry defect and decadence by means of the main characters in “Finn Cooks”, “My Beloved Milk Tea ” and “Stop Eating Junk Food”, remarking how these characters’ sweet and good taste food addiction leads them to physical illness, and their afterward changing on eating behavior. And arising thereof the “Good food consumption” promoting, as the Crocodile in “The Crocodile that Loved His Greens” and the Grandfather in “Slow Bread”, who accomplish body health by enjoying natural and fresh dietary flavors. In the fourth chapter, the concept of “Enjoy the food delight by your body sensors” will be pointed out. By analyzing the picture books “The family of fourteen Mochi pounding”, “Odango soup”and “Obasan No Gochisou”, it is clearly seen that the food attractiveness can be achieved not only by its delicious taste, but also by the DIY experience, by playing and sharing the food making process, and enjoying the fun due to the mind and body dedication. Finally, the fifth chapter concluded: the dietary education thinking derived from this study, the food illustration and imagination on this research and future research suggestions.
