Summary:碩士 === 國立臺中科技大學 === 室內設計系碩士班 === 104 === Taiwan traditional house absorb and combine western style during Japanese colonization period. Taiwan western-style house convert into modern house after Japanese colonization period. This study will figure out the evolution of context and the impact of modern house. Research methods is Document analysis and case comparison. It will focus on central Taiwan area. Analysis the difference of traditional and western house like open-space in front of house, hall, veranda, stair and toilet. Although Taiwan courtyard spirit change but the life ethic didn`t fully westernization. It didn`t abandon symmetrical pattern of Taiwan tradition. In living space, the process of modernization combines “function guide” and “western style”. Western thought reform movement during the Japanese occupation, reflected in the Western-style residences in Taiwan, which undertake a spiritual tradition has absorbed the courtyard combines exotic style, this time creating residence space phenomena of modernization.
