Teenagers have been used as a representative of low-skilled workers, but as the percentage decreases so does the potential assessment capability. This study tests the usage of educational attainment as a possible replacement for teenagers in assessing the employment effects of the minimum wage. Low levels of education were found to have a statistically significant relationship with the minimum wage. As education level increased the disemployment effects of the minimum wage decreased. As such, the goals of reducing income inequality and poverty though increasing the minimum wage could possibly be better achieved though educational initiatives.
