My main purpose is to analyze the backgrounds and origins of Sato’s ideas of learning community, as well as its practices, in difference with other class reforms. I will also consider the learning connections and reflect on the educational praxis. The conclusions of my researches are the following. (1) The ideas of learning community are based on educational development and interdisciplinary studies in human and social sciences, by accumulating the empirical studies from the field of classroom practices. (2) The three systems (teachers, students, and parents) can realize the publicness, democracy, and excellence in education. (3) Learning community turns the connection in learning in classroom to be communication and construction of meaning, it further makes the learning to be related to student’s real life. (4) Learning community emphasizes on the idea that school as a whole is a unit for learning connections; on the contrary, other class reforms have instead to do with the pedagogy of individual class operation. (5) Learning community provides insights for promoting holistic education, reflecting on the essence of education, and emendating the education reform. Finally, I give some suggestions according to my understanding of the idea of learning community and my experience of teaching, which can be a further reference for the other teachers.
