Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 台灣文化研究所 === 104 === “Traveling” not only can expand children’s knowledge but also can increase the experiences in their life. Through the process of reading, the readers go through the whole world, develop the identification to their hometown, and improve the global perspective. As a result, “traveling writing” plays a significant role in the literature. In this study, it was aimed to explore the travel writings adopted in three versions of textbooks: Nani, Kanshuan, and Hanlin. Specifically, they were used by the students in the second and the third learning stages. Then, the researcher analyzed the texts to understand why they were adopted and how they were organized. In addition, in order to select the textbook, she showed the identity of the materials by discussing the relationships among the locations of traveling, the themes, the keynote, the connection to the critical issues, the genres, the way to express, and the characteristics of the language.
The results indicated that the texts of traveling writings occupied certain percentages in the textbooks. Among these three versions, they had their own merits. Firstly, although emphasizing on the selection of articles can give students opportunities to understand the different types of writing, there was a potential problem that the genres were unevenly distributed throughout the textbooks. Secondly, in the light of analyzing the content, it was investigated that the domestic traveling writings were mainly about the locations in the southern Taiwan whereas overseas ones mostly described about European spots. Moreover, most of them focused on the specific architectures, mountains, and the seashores. Thirdly, it was concluded that a majority of themes were related to the natural landscapes and the artificial scenery. On the other hand, in order to pursue the educational values, the works were also combined with the issues of environmental protection. Finally, in spite of lacking argumentative writings, most of the articles were written in prose with sincere and vivid manners to enrich the depiction.
In sum, when concerning with the organization of the materials, the continuity and the integration should be greatly emphasized. Additionally, the writing styles of the selected articles should be diversified in order to broaden learners’ reading horizon, augment the appreciation of articles, and advance the interests in writing. For the future studies, except deeply exploring the travel writings, the researcher suggested that related teaching methods also can be further discussed.
