The Kinect 3D sensors give 3D coordinates of the user’s skeleton and body joints and thus enable the computer to understand human body movements in an easier way. Through such innovative sensing and skeletal tracking system, users are also able to interact with the computer in a natural way. The users do not need any controllers; they are the controllers. With the advantages that Kinect has, Kinect-based games can be widely used in physical therapy and rehabilitation for patients suffering from lower limb dysfunction. These interactive games not only assist patients like many other forms of traditional rehabilitation equipment do, but also provide patients with real fun that they have never experienced during a traditional therapy session. This paper presents the benefits of virtual reality therapies on lower limbs through Kinect-based games. The aim is to design useful Kinect-based C# or Flash games to track the patient’s rehabilitation process and progress.
