Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 104 === The most important 20th-century French composer Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) was born in Paris, France. In his lifetime, he composed about 152 Franch art songs. Poulenc’s song cycle “Tel jour telle nuit” and his art song “Ce doux petit visage” are the main topic of this thesis, and the lyrics of these songs are written by the essential surrealist poet Paul Eluard (1895-1952).
The purposes of this thesis are (1) to explain the historical backgrounds, composing methods and the arrangement of musical materials of Poulenc’s song cycle “Tel jour telle nuit” and the art song “Ce doux petit visage”, (2) to look into Poulenc’s life and his composing style in art songs, (3) to clarify the influences of Surrealism on Poulenc’s and Eluard’s conceptions about the creation of art, and (4) by the analyses above, to understand and to interpret the musical implications in Poulenc’s art songs.
