Recently, local musicians have begun writing indigenous hymns. The hymns by Mr. I-To Loh contain a wealth of Taiwan musical elements so Taiwan church’s hymns began to be quite different from the previous Western style ones. The research focus of this thesis is the 19 hymns by Mr. I-To Loh and look forward to get a better understanding about the hymns with Taiwan's language. The local hymns may rise, flourish and evolve into a new era, instead of confining the Christian music to the mainstream of Europe or America. This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter describes the motive, purpose, scope, methodology and terminology. Chapter II goes through the literatures on Taiwanese music, song structure analysis, Mr. Luo’s home life and the processes of his music creations. Chapter III Research design and implementation; The fourth chapter describes the analysis for the 19 Taiwanese hymns, including range, mode, motivation, form, and arranger.
