The study was conducted in the following steps. First, by reviewing related studies done in Taiwan and other countries, Smartphone Addiction Scale was developed as the main research tool. Second, with the questionnaire as the study method, the study used stratified random sampling of 522 junior high school students from 7 administrative districts in Keelung. Then, the researcher selected 2 students from each level, including the normal, cautionary and danger level respectively to conduct qualitative interviews and data analyses. By interviewing these students, a deeper understanding of the possible factors causing smartphone addiction was expected to be achieved. 1.Usage of Smartphones (1)The results showed that up to nine tenths of students use smartphones, that eight tenths of students use them for a year or more, that more than 83% of students spend at least an hour a day using them, and that they used them mostly in their after-school time. (2)The study also found that junior high school students used smartphones for the purpose of entertainment and social contact, that they mainly use smartphones to contact their parents and peers , and that they considered convenience and relaxation the advantages of using smartphones, while affecting health, study and wasting time the disadvantages. 2.Status Quo of Smartphone Addiction (1)About 16.7% of junior high school students in Keelung reach the cautionary level. What’s more, 30% of students reach the danger level. (2)When it comes to the status quo of smartphone addiction, there is no significant difference in the grades they are presently in, but, significant differences are found in the year of usage and the daily-average using time. The more time they use smartphones, the more serious their addiction is. 3.Factors Contributing to Smartphone Addiction (1)Learning Factor: Those students who perform poorly in study and experience high pressure from schoolwork become more addictive to smartphones than others. (2)Society/Environment Factor: Those students who are controlled by their parents in their using of smartphones are less likely to be smartphone-addictive, while those who have not-so-close relationship with their family or those who are unsatisfied with school life have more serious addiction to smartphones. (3)Personality Trait Factor: Those students whose addiction to smartphones reach to the cautionary and danger level share some common personality traits such as being anxious, emotional and impatient. Based on the findings, the researcher made some suggestions for educational institutions, parents and teenagers for future reference. Chang, Cheng-Chieh 張正杰 2016 學位論文 ; thesis 93 zh-TW |
