However, the time and requirement of the aircraft line maintenance are usually varied because of stochastic flight delays, temporary and unexpected malfunction as well as aircraft reassignments. Both the time and personnel demand for the aircraft line maintenance are uncertain in actual operations. Thus, it is important to plan a manpower supply which can meet such uncertain time and personnel demands of the aircraft line maintenance. In this research, we consider uncertain time and personnel demands of the aircraft line maintenance to develop a line maintenance manpower supply model. The model can efficiently plan good manpower supply for uncertain time and personnel demands so as to enhance the work effectiveness of the maintenance staff and the aviation safety. We use the two-stage stochastic programming technique to develop the model. We not only consider the stochastic personnel demands, but also consider the temporary manpower in each stochastic scenario in the model. We also design two factors in the model to reflect the shift and personnel work overtime in each uncertain demand scenario. Sensitivity analyses are also performed to understand the influence of the factors on the solution.
