Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣師範大學 === 圖書資訊學研究所 === 104 === To assist humanities scholars’ research through information technology, researchers are using the concept of ontology from the field of philosophy to process knowledge information. By doing so, the amount of time spent on manual observation can be reduced while the accuracy of decision making can increase. Meanwhile, the technology of linked data can assist researchers to access various information.
Professor Wang, Chen-ku is considered as one of the most influential persons for librarianship in Taiwan. He attained prominent achievement during his terms as the Director General of National Central Library; meanwhile, he educated many outstanding students. This study aims at building a system that employs the technology ontology and linked data to analyze the important events and achievements in Professor Wang’s life. By following the same procedure, the career paths of scholars in librarianship can be analyzed, and the resultant system can be used as a dataset and tool for scholars of digital humanities.
The technology of ontology is used in this research. Data about Professor Wang was collected by National Taiwan Normal University Library. An ontology of 26 classes, 27 properties and 3645 triples were used to describe the career path of Professor Wang. D2Rq Sever, MySQL, LODlive and Apache Sever were used to build a website that described the career path of Professor Wang.
To test the efficacy of the website, 74 participants in the field of library and information science were recruited for conducting four tasks to verify the relevance of ontology. The result showed that in the first two general tasks, the website developed by this research was significantly faster than the traditional website in the control group. Search sentences in Task 3 were specially processed by natural language. Therefore, there was no difference in the results between the 2 groups. Task 4 required users to retrieve answers through hyperlinks, and the test result showed that the control group was faster. The results of this research reveals that websites of ontology nowadays lacks a sufficient interface. It is expected that in the future, the context of ontology can be expanded and the structure can be reconfigured to be used in other academic fields and that a more convenient interface can be developd.
