The study uses Structured Observation, a method of assisting quality with quantity to design the study. From Apr. 2014 to Jan. 2015, the researcher participated in the practice of the ensemble, videotaped and recorded the teaching of the instructor and the learning states of the ensemble members, and interviewed those members; the study objects are three group members of the ensemble in T church in Tainan City. To obtain the quantified data, the research tool was the music perception evaluation form edited by the researcher, which included tonal perception and singing intonation. Tonal perception included tonality perception, harmony perception and sight-singing ability; singing intonation included single part unison, individual solo and parts chorus. The qualified data was obtained through the observation journal and the transcript of interviews. Through the music perception evaluation form, the evaluation of division, details, individuals and months was aggregated, which was then made into a line chart and a bar chart to see the learning states in order to assist qualitative analysis; through the description of qualified texts, the learning states of the three group members and the instructor’s teaching strategies were obtained; combined with the initial states presented by the quantified data and cross discussions, the study results are as follows: 1. Trained by acapella, the members of the amateur community ensemble presented higher learning states of tonal perception and singing intonation. The learning states of tonal perception performed best in harmony perception, followed by tonality perception and sight-singing ability; the learning of singing intonation was not hindered by the sharps or flats of key signature, and presented best in single part unison, followed by individual solo, and parts chorus showed the most challenging. 2. In the amateur community ensemble trained by acapella, the training strategies of tonal perception and singing intonation were using Movable Do and rote singing to build up the inner hearing ( audiation ) , assisted with hand sign, humming with neural sound, transposition, steady tempo or ostinato, singing harmony, reading lyrics, as well as practicing breath, and games to improve the members’ learning effects; videotaping and music appreciating lead the members to realize and adjust good voices; the members looked for singing intonation through tuning forks using.
