碩士 === 國立清華大學 === 高階經營管理碩士在職專班 === 104 === The Status of China Educational Technology and the "Internet + Education"
2013 was widely accepted as inception of China’s “Online Education Era” and now two questions caught attention: To what extent China’s education technology sector (Ed-Tech) manifested by online education has developed in the swift elapse of last 3 years? What are the changes and trends of Ed-Tech in China? To answer these questions this study tried to portray China’s Ed-Tech changes, especially the state in the past, present time and coming future on the basis of objective and factual data and information obtained from multi-dimensions or aspects such as policy, capital, and business model.
In 2015, the Education Act Amendments became the focal point in China and commercialized training institutes were about to invite capitals for the venture. In this year “Emphasis on Education Informatization” had been repeatedly urged by China State Department and Education Ministry and the question was whether if the players in China Ed-Tech sector were ready and well prepared for the mark. In October 2015 China saw Enactment of Two-Child Policy, so what would be the impacts and major influences to the development of China education sector, in particular to that of early child education sector in the coming 3 to 5 years? For years the elementary and secondary school students and even their parents have suffered from test marks competition in entrance tests of high schools and middle schools, as a result Education Reform became the strongest urge, further new concepts such as Marker Education, STEAM, etc were emerging instantly, and PPP model (i.e. Public-Private-Partnership, indicating a long term cooperation between a government entity and a private party acting like partners) was launched as a pilot/experimental plan, hence will K-12 education see an immediate difference?
In early 2014, the first Education Concept Share in A Shares, QTONE Education (Guangdong QTone Education Co., Ltd.) landed on Growth Enterprise (GE) OTC Market at Shenzhen Stock Exchange; furthermore, in terms of market value, in first half of 2015 once overstepped that of New Oriental, the top leader in Education Sector; what would be the influences or impacts to the capital market from these issues?
As of today since 2014, many A-Shares listed companies entered the education sector to do the cross-boundary business through investment, or merger, or industrial layout; how should the educational businesses or Ed-Tech businesses having dedicated for decades make informed choices in facing up the challenges nothing short of threatening from these new cross-boundary players?
As of 2015, more than 70 educational business parties launched on the New Three OTC Markets in China, besides the new hierarchical policy was already adopted, facing these situations how should an educational business respond, and realize her growth goals? And how should a private business should make informed choices among the various possibilities laid before her? In 2015 while A-shares market were experiencing rapid ups and downs and surprising revives, the VIE (abbreviation for Variable Interest Entities, referred to as Protocol Control in China) was returned to A-Shares list and served as the new subject. Whether the changes in secondary market will lead to influences to the investment in the primary market? And among USD funds and RMB funds which will predominate the fluctuation?
In the specific sub-fields such Early Child Education, Basic Education, Higher Education, Vocational Education, Languages, Overseas Studies, Hobbies, Platforms, what changes were seen in terms of new contestants and capital contribution in this year? In To-B Sales and To-C Sales User quantity or cash flow matters – remains uncertain and even entangled. In terms of value estimation no matter in US or China, unicorns in Online Education already took presence, and in coming future there will be more unicorns taking presence unquestionably and the questions will be Where will they be and to What Destinations will they move?
The existing key players in Education Sector are pooling investment into their layout, certainly the key players in internet sector – BAT Three-Cosponsored Initiative – have taken strategic steps frequently, not only putting investments for their layout plant but also launching recruitments on the respectively platform of their own to attract and invite talented experts nationwide.
The shortage of outstanding quality education resources and outstanding teachers still remains to be the main concerns of the students and their parents, especially the gaps in educational resources. In addition to trying every possible effort to attend the classes taught by outstanding teachers they became aware that internet, the web network, serves as an ideal platform that collects and offers outstanding quality education resources. The emerging development of internet actually acting as the promoter facilitating the development of conventional business sectors, and this function is becoming apparent in education sector.
Early in years back Khan Academy USA already overthrew the conventional ideas in education, putting emphasis not solely on “teaching” delivered by professionals but specially on “learning” and the learning process of the students; Megastudy Korea established independently the own outstanding teaching faculty teams, formulated the curriculum, and offered individualized teaching and learning practice, thus enabling students to win high marks and admissions to top schools…Internet Schools have changed the conventional education models and patterns step by step, consequently e-education platforms are booming swiftly in many developed countries. Now the Online Education Era in which “Internet + Education” integrating innovation is right at the corner, “Internet” will not only change the educational model for good but will also optimize the education effect, and will definitely provide the students or learners with innovative services.
