Research Methods:This research applied a cr oss-sectional descriptive correlational study design and the purposive sampling by collecting a total number of 200 samples. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and heart rate variability were used to analyze the collected data by SPSS 20.0. Research Findings: The average score of sleep quality was 9.03±4.42 points Nearlytwo thirds of the studied cases resulted in ≥6 points and this score indicates that a poor sleep quality exists and the group of the hemodialysis patient subjects had poorer sleep quality than that of the peritoneal dialysis patients. Additionally, this finding suggests that the group of the hemodialysis subjects had significantly lower diastolic pressure thanthat of the peritoneal dialysis subjects . With regard to heart rate variability,SDNN, RMSSD, AVNN, and LF were all higher inthe group of the hemodialysis patients than that of the peritoneal dialysis patientsIt was found that the older the subjects were, the lower in the values of nLF and LF/HF ratios and the higher the values of SDNN, RMSSD, pNN50, AVNN, and nHF, andthat the better the daily living activities assessment was, the lower in the values of SDNN, RMSSD, pNN50, and AVNN while the higher in nLF values. On the contrary, the worse the daily living activities assessment was, the higher the nHF values. It was also found that the greater daytime dysfunction was, the higher in the values of SDNN, pNN50, VLF, and LF, and that the more often sleeping pills were used, with the higher in VLF values. Conclusion: Both hemodialysis patients and peritoneal dialysis patients showed poor sleep quality. Hypertension and blood pressure abnormalities were common problems of the patients in both groups. It was also shown that sleep quality was highly associated with HRV. The results of this study can serve as the reference in treatment selection for clinical doctors and the design of medical quality surveillance in clinical dialysis care services.
