The role of ERP system has been elevated from a pure enterprise resource planning software toward a powerful and important tool which enhances enterprise to establish core competitiveness, upgrade and even transition. The application of ERP system also extends downwardly from large enterprises to small and medium enterprises, from high-tech industries to traditional industries, applicators are diverse. With ERP system status elevation and applicator diversification, lead the change of impact factors for implement accordingly, which becomes more and more important and is worthy to study further.
Current research for ERP system’s key success factors are mainly in connection with enterprise itself, ERP software and consultancy, rarely considering complementary relationship between various factors, which we call “compatibility”. First, this study collects and summarizes previous success factor analysis for ERP system implement, then make an in-depth qualitative research on the selected enterprise sample. The methodology is to analyze enterprise sample’s preparation degree of its ownws factors, then explore whether there is a complementary relationship between ERP software and consultancy.
Through in-depth qualitative interviews, paper research and observation, I found that success factors of enterprise itself can’t be completely satisfied, but enterprise sample still can implement ERP system successfully. The key factor is ERP software and consultancy acting complementarily. This study provides consultancy and enterprise a reference to examine the preparation degree of various factors of business itself, determining which ERP software and consultancy are key factors impacting success of implementation. During not only implementation but also evaluation, the study can be applied in enterprise to filter appropriate ERP software and consultancy to meet better “compatibility”.
