CGA is one of the most abundant polyphenols in the human diet and is suggested to be a potential anti-atherosclerotic agent due to its proposed hypolipidemic, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties. To analyze the possible protective role of CGA, macrophage cell model and mice model were set up. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of chlorogenic acid on Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulated macrophage and DSS-induced acute colitis in mice. Inhibition of CGA on the translocation of transcription factor NF-κB in macrophage was observed by using confocal microscope. Moreover, the histological findings showed that CGA treatment can prevent inflammatory cell infiltration and colon damage. We postulated that CGA can prevent intestinal damage and decrease inflammatory cytokines in mice with DSS-induced colitis.
