The quality of water source would affect the procedure of water treatment. Typhoon Morakot caused a significant terrain change in Qishan River basin, and river channels were deposited seriously. Also, since the mountainous areas are bare of vegetation, the surface water quality may deteriorate soon after rainfall events. Thus, this study analyzed the water quality of Qishan River before (i.e. from the first season of 2005 to the third season of 2009) and after (i.e. from the forth season of 2009 to the forth season of 2014) Typhoon Morakot, and results show that the main causes of the pollution are suspended solids and total phosphorus. Furthermore, it is found that the correlation coefficients are ranged from 0.567 to 0.777, indicating a positive and moderate correlation between suspended solids and total phosphorus. This implies that when the level of suspended solids increases, the level of total phosphorus also increases simultaneously. Besides, the results show that discharge is associated with suspended solids as well as total phosphorus, and their correlation coefficients increase after Typhoon Morakot. This is because this area is easily eroded by rainfall and water flow due to bare soil in mountainous areas and sediment on river bed. Wang, Yu-Min 王裕民 2016 學位論文 ; thesis 108 zh-TW
