However, placing construction corns are time consuming and difficult to arrange them in a tidy manner. In addition, more than 2000 fatal car accidents occur every year in Taiwan. Among those accidents, about 200 people are killed annually. The objective of this research is to apply robot technology to reduce car accidents and the time required for placing/retrieving construction cones, as a result, managerial performance of road projects can be enhanced. To achieve the goal, an intelligent construction cone with automatic moving, remote monitoring, and road warning functions is developed. The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is first applied to analyze and design the intelligent construction cone. According to system analysis and design results, functions are developed and tested accordingly. Finally, economy and feasibility of the developed intelligent construction cone is validated using real roads. Validation results are compared with those of using traditional construction cones. Real applications show that the proposed intelligent construction cone could enhance road construction safety and allow managers to monitor construction site status.
