Based on narrative approach and holistic-content perspective, the interview findings are as follows: A. The conflict between parent and child At the beginning, the participant was suffer from the complex conflict between childhood trauma due to the strict family rules set up by her father and love for her father. Furthermore, she had to put up with her hot-tempered father and was reluctant to apply for military school in order to meet her father’s expectation. B. Family life was disturbed by cancer The participant’s family encountered financial difficulties, thus, they had to adjust themselves to such difficulties. The participant also needed to handle housework and school work at the same time. C. Learning to be a competent caregiver The participant had to learn basic medical knowledge and skills, time management, and communication skill of discussing medical treatment for patient while in hospital. In order to ease patient’s condition, she must carefully choose nutrition or folk remedies provided by relatives and friends for her father. She was embarrassed by cleaning her father’s body and stress out about heavy work for caring her father. D. The pressure of interpersonal relationship The participant was burdened with helpless consolation from classmates and teacher’s overreacted concern in public at school. Volunteers’ enthusiastic assistance and visitors in hospital made her fee stressful and exhausted. E. Struggle for making decisions about medical treatment The participant and her family couldn't trust in health care system after long medical treatment. After long discussion consideration for medical treatment, the whole family decided to choose hospice. Such decision made them. F. Parental Bereavement The participant felt fear and shock of death. When she signed father’s DNR(do not resuscitate) consent, she faced a dilemma, and she could not endure the pain for her father’s death. G. The eldest children assumed family responsibilities The eldest children assumed family responsibilities, she had to handle her father's funeral and heritage, prevent her uncles from competing for father’s possessions, and protect her family. H. Lost Experience of children After father's death, the Participant resisted change difficulty and felt insecure in the new life. She hardly adapted to the new environment and social circles at the university, and she had lost control of her life. I. Reflections of Life By reflecting on her life, the Participant found her love for father, and the death of her father brought family conflicts to the surface. She was confused the role of caregiver and self and was aware of the feelings of helplessness that impacted her physical and mental health.
