The purpose of this study is to explore the correlation between drug compliance, emotion regulation, and self-efficacy in a group of schizophrenia with different levels of nicotine addiction. The questionnaires included: "Fagerstrom Tolerance Questionnaire", " Drug Attitude Inventory: Chinese Edition" (DAI-30), "Perceived Stress Scale" and "General Self-Efficacy Scale". A group of 80 participants were recruited for this study. Research participants were divided into three groups, which contained non-smoking group (N=30), non-nicotine addiction group (N=28), and nicotine addiction group (N=20). 61.25% of all patients are taking more high risk anti-psychotic drugs. There is no significant correlation between smoking and other variables. Non-smoking group has significant higher scores than non-nicotine addiction group in "Perceived Stress Scale" and "Psychotic Symptom Reaction",but not significantly different from nicotine addiction group. While adding "taking drugs"condition into multivariate analysis, each groups’ scores on "Perceived Stress Scale" and "Psychotic Symptom Reaction became no more significant, because “taking drugs” condition becomes the mediator. According to regression analysis, predictive model can explain 10.7% for self-efficacy, and explanatory model can predict the sale-efficacy for 15.5%. Amount 70% of people with schizophrenia were dignosed as delusional subtype in this study, so subtype disorder may be a more important variable in this study. It is suggested that further study can find more variables to improve schizophrenia smokers’ self-efficacy and provide necessary assistance.
