Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 客家文化研究所 === 104 === Due to a large number of natural resource in Miaoli County, there are sufficient raw materials and fuel to make ceramics. The oldest ceramic people found in Miaoli can even been traced back to Prehistory. It was found that people had started to use plates that made from clay as household utensils in the early period of Qing Dynasty; however, there was no record written down. During the Japanese colonial period, new techniques and facilities had been brought in Taiwan, and therefore the pottery kilns had been built on a large scale. Ceramics for daily use were produced in the beginning. After the restoration of Taiwan, the main product had changed into the wine urns of TTL (Taiwan Tobacco&Liquor Corporation). In the 1970s, ceramics in Miaoli had been transferred into decorative ceramics. With the combination of western art and techniques, numerous decorative ceramics were sold overseas and made a considerable sum of foreign exchange. As time passed by, ceramics in Miaoli had fallen into a decline because of the offshore migration of industry. Fortunately, it had been transferred into a complex tourism industry and individual studios in recent two decades. The geographic range of this research is the whole area of Gongguan Township in Miaoli County; and the time range is from 1930 up to now. This research is accomplished by documentary analysis and in-depth interview to discuss the development of ceramics at Gongguan Township. From the Japanese colonial period, ceramics has risen and then changed into a different kind of industry through the ages. Furthermore, the operating statuses of the pottery factories and studios that are still open at Gongguan Township will also be discussed in the research.
