Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 音樂學系 === 104 === This study focuses on one of the representative works for cello of Mendelssohn, Sonata No. 2 for Violoncello and Piano Op. 58. The outer movements contain rich emotions, and the inner movements are humorous and romantic in style. In comparison with Mendelssohn’s contemporaries, this cello sonata was rather conservative in the structure. However, Mendelssohn tried to make his unique way of composing techniques and musical contents.
This study consists of four chapters. The first chapter is an introduction of the structure of the thesis, including the research methodology and the motivation of research. The second chapter is about the development of Romanticism, the music of Mendelssohn’s background and Mendelssohn's music style. The third chapter is about music form analysis and interpretation. In the third chapter, I will analyze the content of the piece's structure and harmony toward tonality first and then explore the way of performance. The last chapter is conclusion.
