Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 運籌管理研究所 === 104 === Facing ever-changing consumers’ demand and fierce global competitions, effective and efficient utilization of its resources has become one of the key issues for an enterprise to be profitable and sustainable. In addition to production management, warehouse and distribution management also plays an important role to improve a company’s efficiency. Past research about storage area planning were based on make-to-stock manufacturing strategy. Safety stock and corresponding storage area are required in these cases. This study proposes a planning process for storage areas under make-to-order (MTO) environment. The process is based on facility planning process principles with considerations about backward scheduling and temporary storage features of MTO. A case company in Taiwan’s forging industry is used to verify the proposed process. Case data are collected and analyzed. Four alternatives are considered based on storage policy and storage area design. Under the goal of minimal total warehouse cost, the best alternative is selected. Through real-case application, proposed process is verified. The best alternative chosen can achieve 76% cost saving compared to the current system. It is also found that alternative with storage area design based on shipping date performs better than the one based ABC analysis in volumes. This implies that storage area design should take into account of scheduling and shipping features of MTO strategy.
