Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 應用英語系口筆譯碩士班 === 104 === This practice report studies what interpreting practice is like in churches, more specifically in a seeker-driven church, and shows what challenges interpreters may face when doing interpreting in a Christian setting. In this report, glossary of commonly used Christian terms was made and strategies were devised for the interpreting challenges, such as accents, religious terminology, comprehension of the preacher’s text, time constraints, and information overload. These interpreting strategies and techniques include familiarizing the speaker’s accent, studying the terminology of the religion, condensing text and acquiring prior knowledge of the field. After nine months of interpreting practices at the church, self-assessment and questionnaire-based survey were conducted to evaluate interpreting performance. The researcher collected his peer interpreters’ feedbacks and evaluated how those strategies had worked for those the interpreting challenges. With average satisfaction scored at 85% for overall interpreting performance, the survey shows that researcher’s interpreting performance was well received with the adoption of those interpreting strategies and techniques.
