The base area is about 1800 square meter, which is formed about 34.6m in width and 52.1m in length. The maximum lateral displacemts range from 5 mm to 14.94 mm observed during the process of braced shallow excavation. The measured data are then used to compare with the predicted results from the 1-D RIDO computer program. The RIDO finite element computer program was developed in 1983 by a French company named Robert Fages Logiciels. The RIDO computer program can be used to simulate the bending moment, shear force, and deformation of the earth retaining structure during excavation stage. It is also able to predict the bracing loadings during the construction stages. This research uses RIDO computer program for obtaining the numerical simulation results of the maximum deformation, which is 15.12mm. Thus, it is concluded that using the RIDO finite element program can predict the excavation response of earth retaining structures. Therefore, under the conditions of choosing reasonable soil model and material properties, proper construction steps, and appropriate boundary and initial conditions, the RIDO finite element computer program can be used to predict the situation of braced shallow excavation. In addition, this study further investigates the influence factors affecting the field response of the braced shallow excavation. The lateral displacement becomes larger considering the construction equipment besides the steel sheet piles. On the other hand, the lateral displacement reduces under the condition that the construction equipment stands on the inner platform during the construction process. It is necessary to take into account the influences of the loading of construction equipment and the timing of construction process. Considering adjacent building loading, which is located above the excavation depth (basement floor), the large amount of lateral displacement would present. The loading below the depth of the excavation (second basement floor and third basement floor), i.e., with adjacent building elevation becomes deeper, the smaller displacement amount presents. In the process of designing and construction, it is necessary to calculate the different building loads and depths for undersatnding the relationship between lateral displacement and influence factors for braced shallow excavation works.
