Summary:碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 教育與潛能開發學系 === 104 === Mr. Tsui was born in a peasant village of China in 1929. When he was 17 years old, to protect his family and house, he decided to leave home and joined in People's Liberation Army which belongs to the Communist Party of China In 1950s, Mr. Tsui was not only a Chinese participant of Korean War, but also an Anti-communist Fighters of the Korean War. During the war, he was one of 14,000 prisoners who firmly refused to be sent back to the Communist China and chose to settle down in Taiwan. However, the belief of “Retaking the Chinese Mainland” was eventually failed in 1960s. It was the reason why Mr. Tsui could not return to his home, so he started to live in Taiwan and had a new family. After the lifting of martial law in Taiwan, Mr. Tsui always returned back to his hometown every year. He keeps seeking out the identity of home between his root and route. Therefore, this thesis is the case study of Mr. Tsui that focuses on the process of his diaspora experience and the relationship with home. It includes his experiences of survival, resistance, recovery and self-determination in the mental health system. His overseas life not just creates our new perspective to understand home identity and the situation of émigrés, and furthermore, it presents what simultaneously occurred in history.
