However, the system is a set of game rules fabricated and stipulated by a small handful of people in possession of power; those who are the fittest shall survive and those who are not shall be eliminated? How does one such misfit get to survive? Each and every one of us has a primary and most pristine self that is then shaped into a different presentation, once undergoing the process of socialization. The author intends to apply her own body, by way of performance arts, for the exploration of manifesting interaction born out of the inter-play between the body and the society, so as to understand how one makes adjustments in face of social conditioning and internal/psychological mis-adjustment. Ultimately, we shall not forget that the innermost primal pristine self needs to attempt at constructing a way to survive, under the intertwining factors and forces of one’s persistence and social conditioning. The series of performance arts under the title of “The Survival of the Unfittest” can be categorized into three dimensions: 1, exploring all facets and workings of socialization from the author’s perspective as an individual; 2, exploring the manifestation of socialization caused amongst individuals during the socialization process; 3, lastly, the author attempts at presenting a dual-way process of socialization by presenting how an individual can impact a collective societal group via the socialization process. Morphing from voluntary compliance with the discomfort of socialization to self-acceptance, as well as from self-exclusion to opening and offering self to further interaction with the society’s other constituent individuals, the author arrives at a state where performance arts not only explore any misfit conditions of the self but also seek ways in which to transform the sense of discomfort caused by not fitting in to strength for survival, where “the unfittest will not be eliminated”, but instead, the unfittest can identify his/her own path of survival in his/her own way.
