Triterpenoids are the major bioactive compounds present in AC, and responsible for cancer curing ability. However, low triterpenoids content is observed in submerged culture. The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of addition of wood essential oil to the shake flask cultures of A. cinnamoea growing under the influence of red light for enhancing triterpenoids production. The results demonstrated that xylose can replace glucose as the carbon source. Although addition of wood essential oil increased the triterpenoids production, the biomass decreased significantly. Adding Cinnamomum kanehirai essential oil 0.1 mL/100 mL and irradiated with red light intensity 300 lux enhanced both biomass and triterpenoid production. The triterpenoid production increased to 57.09 mg/g DW in shake flask cultures. Results indicated that the red light alleviated the inhibitory effect of wood essential oil to mycelia.
