Construction CM is the systematic control approach of all communications that support a project-based change-related process effectively. Change issues should be identified and traced effectively to improve construction management performance. Despite many academic studies and discussions regarding CM, suitable and systematic approaches for managing changes integrated with construction projects are still lacking. This study develops project oriented change management approach and system for construction projects to enhance CM effectively in the construction phase of a project. The proposed CM approach includes the development of change information sheet, change record sheet, change control document, change breakdown structure, change matrix. The proposed CM approach and system has been applied in a case study of a selected construction project in Taiwan for verification purposes and to demonstrate the effectiveness of CM in the construction phase. Based on this case study, the results indicate that construction CM can be improved effectively using the proposed approaches. This study also discusses the benefits and limitation of practical implementation of proposed CM approach and system.
