Questionnaires were sent to 632 parentified children from the parentification program supported by the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families; 210 random samples were selected, and 175 questionnaires were deemed to be valid for inclusion in this study. Research instruments included a “Coping Strategies Scale” and a “Parentification Scale.” The data were analyzed through the use of descriptive statistics, an independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression analysis. The findings of this study are as follows: 1. There are significant differences between the different genders of parentified children when it comes to using certain problem-solving strategies and other strategies for change. 2. The marital relationship of the parentified child’s parents has a significant effect on how he or she uses problem-solving strategies, abeyance strategies, and strategies for change. 3. The parentified child’s welfare status as determined by the public sector has a significant effect on how he or she uses abeyance strategies. 4. Aside from the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families, subventions from other non-governmental organizations have a significant effect on how the parentified children use strategies for change and seek out other supporting strategies. 5. The older the parentified child gets, the heavier of a burden he or she feels when it comes to the functional and emotional load of care that the child provides. 6. There are significant differences between different birth orders as well as the different numbers of siblings when it comes to the functional load of care. 7. The parentification program provided by the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families offers more support to parentified children who have a heavy functional load of care. 8. When demographic variables are controlled, devoting oneself to the practice of various coping strategies as a teenager has increased the predicted success of managing both the functional and emotional care load. After a review of how these results were obtained, the researcher will then discuss the implications of the findings above and provide suggestions for both real practice and future research.
