Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 政治經濟研究所 === 104 === This research is mainly dealing with border trading and development around Thailand. Following the ascent economy of GMS, the role of Thailand’s economy around her border is becoming important and crucial. Geographically, Thailand is located at the core of GMS. It is an opportunity for Thailand to lift up her economy in the region. The Thailand government has adopted many useful and pragmatic policies toward the border economy, especially in trying to integrate her neighbor countries, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos. The following six border customs will be chosen as cases studies for this research; Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai and Tak’s Mae Sot, on the Thailand-Myanmar border; Nong Khai and Mukdahan Border customs on the Thailand-Laos border; and Sa Kaew’s Aranyaprathet and Trat’s Khlong Yai border customs. The economy at the border is booming and within the GMS economy there has never been much attention paid to the application of the dependency theory. The peripheral economy and its growth are always restricted by the core economy which is indicated core-periphery economic dependent relation. Thereby, it can be proved that the border economy is coming up because of the rising of the Chinese economy. The economic integration between China and GMS is important for Thailand’s border economy for three aspects: one, moving from the core area of Bangkok to peripheral areas of Northern and Northeastern parts of Thailand; two, making a new governance model for Northern and Northeastern border region; three, increasing the relationship eith with Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos.
