Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 藝術研究所 === 104 === Took the heart as the reflections of mirror, Kaii Higashiyama presented a tranquil view of landscape. Within the peaceful silence, Higashiyama provided a vivid feeling toward his viewers. Traveling was a substantial part of Higashiyama’s life. To absorb the nutrition for his art, his footsteps were over Asia and Europe. Higashiyama shaped his landscape paintings from his sketches during his trips. However it is difficult to distinguish the precise location among his paintings. It’s been discussed how Higashiyama formed his undefined landscape paintings and how he fashioned his visual language. This article started with two turning points of Japanese Paintings and following with the study of Higashiyama’s background. Besides the analyzing of Higashiyama’s life experiences, the second chapter also provides certain understanding of the influences from Japanese traditional Japanese art, similarities and differences among the West and the East point of view, and his personal view toward art. The third chapter emphasized the comparisons between the West and the East among Higashiyama’s landscape paintings. The last chapter was to compare Higashiyama’s art with the Impressionism and Chinese Shan Shi painting. And tried to explain how Higashiyama achieved his accomplishment.
