Chthonic uses “black metal” this genre of heavy metal music as their music style, and it became to a special status in Taiwan. But this music genre was very hard to be popular in Taiwan. After 20 years passed, this group still stand unshakably, and stronger than before. This situation must have include a certain kind of social phenomenon, especially National identity. Identity is a complicated issue in Taiwan’s society, due to its complicated history background. Taiwan is an immigrant society, gone through the reign of Aboriginal, Netherlands, Qing dynasty, Japan, and Republic of China, different rulers bring different historical appearance, but it produced a complicated national identity, especially the constructed identity of rulers made Taiwanese social an important reason for social conflict.Chthonic use their own way of expressing national identity, they want to convey their national idetity to Taiwanese mass by way of their songs. In the end, ‘mu tao jen t'ung’ in this thesis is a identity of Taiwan, and it is a conception which responded social mutation. Chthonic’s ‘mu tao jen t'ung’ include their thought and aspiration. ‘Mu tao jen t'ung’ is an emotional attachment of the people who live in their motherland-Taiwan, so ‘Mu tao jen t'ung’ is gathering emotion of residents, it is not only a national identity but Taiwanese faith.
