Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 資訊管理研究所 === 104 === Today, with the popularity of smart mobile devices and the Internet, using social networks has become a part of our daily life. In Taiwan, Facebook is the most popular social network. Through using Facebook, people can link with current events. Freedom of speech is the main reason why social media are so popular, so the content inspection is facing a dilemma. Due to the fact that browsing social media has become our habit, it is difficult to understand its influence. However, according to related studies, children and adolescents are quite vulnerable to being influenced by the media and the masses. Based on the above concerns, in this study we use an in-depth interview as our research method. We interview 10 adolescents, from ages 12~15, to explore the lived experience of adolescents using social media.
In this study, we use hermeneutic phenomenology to interpret our results. We find that due to friends, pages, and groups, it is quite common for adolescents to be exposed to unhealthy content. Besides, adolescents, especially for those who care too much about the number of likes, have their subculture when they use Facebook. The result of this study indicates that there are many potential problems for adolescents using Facebook, especially since social media content doesn’t have any legal restrictions in Taiwan yet. More seriously, social media has both factors, media and masses, which can influence adolescents at the same time. So, social media content restrictions are a big issue, and all of us should pay more attention to dealing with them.
