At the beginning of the chapters on the moon imagery, the cloud imagery and the snow imagery, Hanshan’s previous work that mentioned moon, cloud and snow in the poetry and the various meanings they displayed were firstly discussed, including the individual imagery and the compound imagery, in hope to understand the moon imagery, cloud imagery, and the snow imagery in Hanshan’s poetry in terms of its legacy from the former works of poetry and innovation. Secondly, this study first categorizes the poems into moon, cloud and snow and summarizes the theme, then later analyzes their connotations and gives an organized conclusion. In hope that through diachronic and synchronic background analysis the special values of the moon imagery, cloud imagery and snow imagery could be discovered.
