Among them, the fire safety work was originally planned and designed by architects, but now it is done by professional fire protection engineers. After the evolution of legislation, the fire engineers know the whole construction work but deficiencies still occur in building construction. This study was to analyze the deficiencies in fire protection work, their reasons and precautionary measures. From the published 128 item of the common deficiencies in fire protection work, 37 fire extinction related items were chosen to analyze the reasons of the deficiencies, classify them, determine the stages of occurrence, and fire out the precautionary measures. The construction project owners, fire authorities, designers,and builders were interviewed in the researchs process. The results show that the deficiencies in fire protection work are classified to six categories: (1) The work does not comply with regulations. (2) The materials and the equipment cannot be used or function. (3) The fire protection equipment does not meet the construction standards or techniques. (4) Designs change in construction. (5) Fire protection constructio drawings are not drawn well to avoid the conflicts with other works. (6) The construction sequence does not follow the progress. In the five stages of the building construction, construction and inspections of completion are the two main stages of deficiency occurence. The precautionary measures are : (1) Establish the steps and principles of design. (2) Examine materials and equipment. (3) Prepare clear construction drawings. (4) Aggregate technical standards of construction. (5) Aggregate the standards of operation. (6) Build construction coordination for various types of work.
