However, as for machinery enterprises Taiwan is not in the top fifty on a world scale. Emerged the distinctive features of SME in Taiwan. The objective of this study is to explore R&D employees and to determine how to create competition in the machine tools industry. This study explores the personality traits, and innovative behavior for the R&D employees of manufacturing in the Taiwan machine tool industry. Specifically, the mediating effects of self-efficacy are tested. Data was collected from 102 R&D employees from the machine tool industry. The results showed that the personality traits perception of the R&D employees had positive relationship with their innovative behavior. In addition, the self-efficacy of the R&D employees had partial mediation effect in the relationship between personality traits and innovative behavior.
