Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 水土保持學系所 === 104 === This research is aimed at developing the red relief image maps (RRIMs) to aid terrain feature interpretations in 6 study areas in Taiwan. RRIM is generated based on combination of terrain openness and slopes. We choose generic mapping tools (GMT) to plot the self-developed RRIMs, and a digital elevation model (DEM) with 40m spatial resolution is used for the computations of terrain openness and slopes. We divide 8 cases for each study area according to selections of different search radii (200m~1600m) in terrain openness computations.
The results show that the self-developed RRIMs better highlight the ridgelines, valleys and watersheds than the contour or hypsometric maps. In rough terrains, the search radii of 1000m and 1200m are the best choices; in flat areas, the search radii of 400m and 600m are strongly recommended. Furthermore, the self-developed RRIMs has obvious advantages in topographic interpretations. The purpose of this research is to develop a new visualization of topographic maps to provide subtle and useful terrain information and further bring contributions to the regions of disaster prevention, soil and water conservation, environmental monitoring, and resource exploration.
