The Internet has become essential in students’ daily lives. Therefore, the Internet usage behavior and their effects on young people are getting more attention. This study implemented a questionnaire of Internet usage behavior and relationship, adapted by the researcher, with 1065 students in one vocational school in Changhua County to explore the differences in the relationship between the virtual network and real-life world according to different individual students background variables (i.e., gender, grade, parents’ education, caregivers, and socioeconomic status) and Internet usage behavior (i.e., Internet usage seniority, Internet use-motivation, network usage locations, hours, equipment, Internet-use activities, and the attitude of parents to their children's Internet usage behavior). The statistics of t-test, chi-square test, and one-way ANOVA conclude the following findings: a.Most students have used the Internet for more than 4 years in order to reduce stress, entertain, chat with others, and kill time. They often use the Internet at home for more than 4 hours per day. The usage activities mostly include chatting, playing games, and viewing all kinds of medias. Parents usually allow their children’s autonomy in using the Internet. b.These students’ interpersonal relationship average scores show that their relationship with others is less than the norm. Particularly, their relationship with classmates and friends is better than their relationship with parents and Internet friends. c.These students’ interpersonal relationship differ due to their parents’ education, caregivers, and their family’s socioeconomic status. d.These students’ interpersonal relationship differ due to their different kinds of Internet usage behavior. Based on the findings, suggestions for schools, family, society, and future research are further provided. This study can be a useful reference for schoolteachers and relevant counselors.
