The teaching material was based on the Dong Da edition Book VI and the subjects were eighty students from two classes of third grade in a vocational high school in Changhua. In terms of the research design, a quasi-experiment was adopted with an experimental group as well as a control group. Each of the groups was forty students. Learning Motivation of Chinese Questionnaire and Chinese academic achievement test were conducted as the pre-test. After eight-week experimental teaching, the post-test performace was taken immediately. The data collected were analyzed and discussed with t-test, ANCOVA, and simple regression analysis. In addition, qualitative aspect of data such as classroom obversation and teaching logs were also simultaneously disscussed. The research findings were as follows::1.Students had significant progress on academic achevement of Chinese learning with the implementation of STAD.2.Students had significant progress on learning motivation of Chinese learning with the implementation of STAD.3.Experimental group students had significant progress on academic achevement and learning motivation of Chinese learning with the implementation of STAD.Some the recommendations were provided for education practitioners and for future studies.
