We explored the difference of awareness in emotional labor and a sense of wellbeing among the teachers with differing backgrounds, and proceeded to discuss the relationship between emotional labor and a sense of wellbeing among the same participants. This study compiled literature from here and abroad, received valuable opinions from education experts and made revisions according to the mentor’s suggestions. We employed a questionnaire entitled the Questionnaire Survey of Emotional Labor and Sense of Wellbeing among elementary school teachers in Changhua County, namely, subject teachers, classroom teachers, and teachers with administrative responsibility. We selected samples using stratified random sampling method. A total of 510 teachers were chosen as participants who were asked to complete and return the questionnaire before deadline. 467 copies were completed and returned. The effective response rate was 91.57%. Then we conducted analysis using mean, standard deviation, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis. Conclusions were reached based on the above analysis: 1. Teachers of differing sexes demonstrated a significant difference in their “surface control” and “diversity of emotions” dimensions as well as in overall awareness of their emotional labor conditions. 2. There is a significant difference in the “level of interaction” dimension among the teachers with different responsibilities. 3. There is a significant difference in the awareness of “physical and mental health” dimension and their well-being overall conditions among the teachers of differing sexes. 4. There is a significant difference in the awareness of “positive thinking” dimension among the teachers of differing ages. 5. Three aspects of a teacher’s emotional labor, namely, “emotional expression,” “surface control,” and “deep acting,” have a significant, positive impact on all dimemsions of wellbeing and the overall conditions. 6. The “level of interaction” dimension of a teacher’s emotional labor exerts a significant, positive effect on the “achievement” dimension of teachers’ wellbeing. Finally, based on the research findings, it is recommended that the schools and education-related units should offer more teacher discussion forums and emotional labor-related courses, in order to establish a better communication process between parents and teachers, and show more respect for teachers' professional autonomy.
