Upon the shock that his father passed away as he was 33, he was mentally changed to abandon the official opportunities and devoted himself to services in the Imperial College. After returning to Suzhou, he indulged himself in arts and creative works in daily lives. The art of semi-cursive script was the most representative among his calligraphic works, especially for those at his declining years, with the personal style of being ferocious. In the analysis of Chen’s calligraphic arts of his works, they were classified into chronological and non-chronological parts with tables. Changes in calligraphic style and traces of broad learning were clearly revealed in these tables. In addition, calligraphic features of his works were summarized. In the following thesis, we divided it into six parts for discussing different topics: introduction of the past researches on Chen Chun, discussion of his background and relationships with others, the origin and characteristics of his arts compared with those of his teachers and friends, specialties of his arts compared with the else of the Wu’s calligraphers, values and effects of his arts on later calligraphic workers and the positioning of his calligraphic arts in Mid-Ming Dynasty, and the conclusion.
