We analyze the grades in science and personal information of the students of Chiang Kai-shek middle school to study the correlation between the science achievement of students and their family background. We also study how the science achievement of students in the elementary school can impact that in the middle school. Furthermore, the correlation between the science achievement of students and their Comprehensive Assessment for Junior High School Students (CAT)scores is studied as well. In our study, we find the following about the science achievement of students in the surrounding islands of Taiwan. (1) The sexes are irrelevant. (2) No strong dependence on which grades the students are in. (3) There is a big impact if the student’s parents are government employees. (4) School choice makes an obvious difference. (5) Science achievement of students in the elementary school significantlyaffects that in the middle school. (6) The CAT scores of students highly correlate with their science achievement in middle school. (7) The average of CAT scores of students in the surrounding islands of Taiwan is lower than the national average. According to our study, we have several suggestions for schools, teachers, parents, students and administrations to improve the student achievements in science. (1) We should offer different supplemental education services to students with different growing background. (2) The supplemental education services should be offered as early as when the students are in elementary school. (3) Parents should give their children more attention.
