Summary: | 碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 風險管理與保險學系碩士在職專班 === 104 === Pets become much more intimate nowadays due to the changes of socio-economic patterns and relationships; they further become important members in families. Unlike human beings however, pets do not have national insurance subsidy for covering medical costs of illness and accidents. In addition, when pets hurt people or objects, the owners have to be responsible for it, and the cost is even more difficult to estimate. Pet insurance can help reducing the risks, and insurance companies can share the financial loading of owners as well.
This research summarized the development of pet insurance in Taiwan, discussed its origins and trends, and further introduced the current status of pet insurance from three aspects: marketing, underwriting and claims. Additionally, this study also compares pet insurance systems with Taiwan and other countries such as Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Japan, and China. This research provided suggestions by reviewing the differences among their insurance policies, and discussing their pros and cons; furthermore, offers Taiwanese goods insurance a market direction for developing pet insurance products in the future.
