Dynamic geometry system GeoGebra is an interactive software that combines geometric construction and algebraic calculation. The main feature focuses on students’ initiatives to operate through software and observe the changes and the difference in graphics through interactive methods. It facilitates building mathematical concepts through tangible experiences. With properly designed teaching materials, it can attracts students’ attentions, and promote mathematical learning and encourage learning motivation .
The main purpose of this study is to compare the “GeoGebra assisted lecture mode” and the “traditional lecture mode” in terms of learning efficiency in the course of “ Triangle Three Hearts” for ninth graders. This study also probes into students’ attitude after GeoGebra assisted lecturing so that it can be a reference for futuristic development of GeoGebra assisted lecture in the phase of junior high school.
The methodology of this research is a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest unequal groups. The participants consisted of 69 ninth graders from two classes in a junior high school in Kaohsiung City. One class was assighed to experimental group, and the other to control group. The experimental group applied the GeoGebra assisted lecture, while the control group applied the traditional lecture. This experiment lasted four weeks. The leture content was the course of “ Triangle Three Hearts” in the ninth grade. We analyzed students’ learning achievement and learning attitude after applying the GeoGebra teaching model.
The results are as following:
1. Focusing on the course of “ Triangle Three Hearts”, the variation of the math learning achievement between the all students of the experimental group and the control group reached significant difference.
2. The variation of the math learning achievement from students of the low-scoring、 the middle-scoring and the high-scoring in the experimental and the control group reached significant difference.
3. Focusing on the course of “ Triangle Three Hearts”, the variation of the math learning attitude between the all students of the experimental group and the control group did not reach significant difference.
4. The variation of the math learning attitude from students of the middle-scoring in the experimental and the control group reached significant difference.
5. Focusing on the course of “ Triangle Three Hearts”, the students of the experimental group applied the GeoGebra assisted lecture with positive attitude, especially form the high-scoring and the middle-scoring groups.
The results of this study may provide future researchers of “ Triangle Three Hearts” and Mathematics teachers as a reference on research and teaching.
