For SMEs, successful administrative leadership is generally believed to improve corporate effectiveness and lower work stress, and in turn reduce the turnover rate. With a focus on the hydropower, fire-fighting, and air conditioning industries in the city of Kaohsiung, the current study explores the interaction among the administrator's leadership style, employee's proactive personalities, and work stress. The scope of the participants in this study is defined as “engineers in the hydropower, fire-fighting, and air conditioning industries.” Three hundred questionnaires were distributed from January to February, 2016, to service providers in the industry in the Kaohsiung area. The feedback was collected anonymously. One hundred and eighty-seven questionnaires were recovered with 168 valid copies (a valid recovery rate of 89.83 percent). Using descriptive data analysis, analysis of variance, analysis of correlation, and regression analysis, it is found that 1) leadership styles have a significant effect on work stress, 2) the proactive personality has a significant effect on work stress, and 3) leadership styles have a significant the proactive personality.
