Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄應用科技大學 === 化學工程與材料工程系博碩士班 === 104 === In this study, a free-radical polymerization was used to carry out the bulk polymerization, using AIBN as the initiator and a MMA/PMMA syrup as the starting monomer/polymer reactive mixture optionally containing co-monomer such as EMA or BMA. Several manufacturing parameters cited from prior art of cast-produced PMMA and co-PMMA sheet are evaluated to obtain a possible optimum operating condition for the sheet production. These manufacturing parameters included initiator concentration, water-bath temperature, post-polymerization temperature and time. During experiments, a universal mechanical tester (Instron) was used to measure the tensile strength, an impact tester (Charpy) was used to measure the impact strength, and a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to monitor the residue concentration of monomer and co-monomers.
Experimental results described that a little variation of these manufacturing parameters showed only a slight effect on the mechanical property of the PMMA and co-PMMA sheets in tensile strength, impact strength, and the residual monomer concentration. However, the addition of co-monomer in MMA/PMMA syrup can raise the residual concentration of both the monomer (MMA) and co-monomer (EMA or BMA) in the co-PMMA sheet but still under low content.
