An ultrafiltration(UF) hollow fiber membrane module with a total surface area of 0.5 m2 was used to treat domestic wastewater. The results of clear water testing showed that, the module can reach a water production of 1.29 cubic meter per day with a high vacuum of -0.5 to -0.6 bar, while the power consumption is 0.684 kWh per ton of water produced. In case of treating domestic sewage of Kun Shan campus at an average flux of 15.45 LMH during 34 days operation, a water yield of 0.177 CMD was obtained, while the power consumption is 6.8 kWh per ton of water produced. After filtration, the average COD is 30.5 mg/L, and the turbidity is reduced to 0.48 NTU with a removal efficiency of 99.9%. The results showed that, MBR can play the role of final sedimentation tank in activated sludge process, and the quality of permeate is good enough for water reuse. In case of treating membrane process water of a factory with a flow of 4 CMD and average COD of 12,000 mg/L, the average COD of filtered water is 59.7 mg/L, with a removal efficiency of 99.5%, and an average turbidity of 0.18 NTU. The quality of MBR permeate is stable and good enough for the feed of RO process. In this study, the operation parameters of membrane bioreactor treating domestic wastewater and membrane process water has been established, this research is worthy to the promotion of water reuse.
